Evermore Quartet at The Understudy
August 11, 2023 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
$25Click here to buy your tickets.
The Evermore Quartet was formed as a passion project by four musicians at Northwestern University who wanted to play way more chamber music than was required of them. Since graduating, the group continues to play whenever possible for anyone who will listen, focused on performing overlooked oeuvres, newly-composed masterpieces, and works by giants of the genre. This concert presents one of each on a literary theme.
Hosted at The Understudy, a new theater bookstore and cafe in Andersonville, the Evermore Quartet will bring you on a journey reflecting on the relationship between music and literature. The program will begin with Philip Glass’ String Quartet No. 2, a classic work based on the novella “Company” by Samuel Beckett. Next up, a posthumously published quartet written by a composer ahead of her time, Rebecca Clarke’s “Poem”. Lastly, the world premiere of “Poem in Four Parts” by Evermore’s own Owen Ruff.
Doors open at 7:00pm for a 7:30 start to the performance. The Understudy’s coffee bar will be open for refreshments, and BYOB is also welcomed.
